Memphis is perfect for a weekend trip, and its central location makes it driving distance to many other cities. It’s convenient location along Interstate 40 also makes it a great place for anyone just passing through. Here’s a list of the top things to do in Memphis, TN, as recommended by a Memphian:
Visit Graceland
It may feel touristy, and let’s be honest – it is – but it’s worth it. Prices can be steep for the all access experience, but the value is there. Enjoy a look at Elvis’s car collection over the years, tour his two planes, and flashback to the past with a walk through his home.
Tour Sun Studios
This world-known attraction is the birthplace of Rock n Roll and features music history from artists like Elvis Presley, Johny Cash, B.B. King, and more.
Visit the Edge Motor Museum
One of the newer additions to the city, this family-owned museum is a fun stop just steps from Sun Studios.
Visit the STAX Museum of American Soul Music
One of the best activities in the city, a day at STAX Records is a great lesson in music history and fun. The interactive museum features the music of Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and more.
EAT
You may not consider this “a thing to do” but in my mind, it is THE thing to do. Of course get some pork barbecue (we don’t do brisket here), and make sure you visit the right restaurant depending on your order. As well as Memphis does barbecue, i personally feel like wings are where Memphis shines.
Walk off all the food on the pedestrian bridge, Big River Crossing
For stunning city views, you really can’t beat Big River Crossing.
